Books
Thousands of books, including those by Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, Mark Twain, Thomas Jefferson, Tom Paine, Descarte, Montaigne, Walter Mosley, Joan Didion, Barbara Ehrenreich, Naomi Wolf, Naomi Klein, John Stuart Mill, John Paul Sartre, Arundati Roy, Abbie Hoffman, Emma Goldman, John Reed and probably several thousand more thinkers, teachers and activists.
Music
Almost all kinds. I've played guitar for more than 40 years -- sometimes for a living -- and, in that time, I've learned to play a variety of different styles and appreciate many more. I've played in touring bands backing up acts like Larry Hosford, Lacy J. Dalton, Danny Gatton, Sara Pond, a couple of gospel groups and several others. Favorite singers/musicians include:

* Sam Cooke
* Jerry Butler
* Wilson Pickett
* Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits
* Bruce
* Van Morrison
* Ray Charles
* Bob Marley
* Tom Waits
* Aretha
* Mavis Staples
* Lyle Lovett
* Bob Dylan
* The Gypsy Kings
* Strunz & Farah
* Curtis Mayfield
* Jackie Wilson
* The Isley Brothers
* Robert Gordon
* The Ventures
* Luciano Pavarotti
* Kiri Te Kanawa
* Any classical guitarist good enough to get a recording contract
* The music of Beethoven, JS Bach, Mozart, Brahms and Mendelssohn

And zillions more I can't think of at the moment.
Movies
A few come to mind, including:
* Network
* Thank You for Smoking
* State of Siege
* Z
* On the Beach
* Seven Days in May
* Failsafe
* Amadeus
* The Shawshank Redemption
* Good Night and Good Luck
* Terrorstorm
* Zeitgeist
* Babe
* Bull Durham
* Sicko

...just for starters.
Heroes and influences
A lot are already on the authors list, but here are a few more: Dennis Kucinich, Thomas Jefferson, Galileo, DaVinci, Jackson Pollack, Monet, Benny Goodman, Charlie Christian, FDR, JFK and...

each and every member of the 9/11 truth movement who has had the courage and stamina to publicly espouse an unpopular view and, by working tenaciously for years to get the word out, has taken that view and placed it in the mainstream, with BushCo complicity replacing the official myth as the predominant nationwide opinion on what really happened on 9/11/01 despite nothing but criticism and ridicule from US mass media, when they're not being completely ignored, and from virtually all US social, political and doctrinal institutions.

Now that's one hell of a PR job. It's a credit to Americans that they haven't all swallowed the "let's roll" and "they hate us for our freedoms" garbage. But it's really a tribute to the 9/11 truth movement, which has simply refused to sit down and shut up in the face of overwhelming social pressure from all sides.

Thanks all, and I'm proud and honored to know and work with a few of you.

Response to post claiming that there's no such thing as slavery in the US or its protectorates

More news to you... 21st century US-sponsored slavery in the Pacific and right here at home... Here's some unusually decent reporting from CNN.com on the sheer awfulness of modern US imperialism, how that translates into slave labor -- particularly on Saipan in the Marianas Islands -- and its deadly effects on the lives of any "little people" who happen to stand between profits and the slobbering, voracious jaws of the corp… Continue

Response to a thread entitled "The United States of Stupidity: We, the people, didn't used to be this dumb"

The opening post is a pointer to this article published by Smirking Chimp on how dumb Americans have become over the past few decades, and particularly over the past eight years in which facts have become optional and belief systems have replaced logic and critical thinking. This paragraph is a good example of the article's basic thesis: Have you noticed we live in a stupid nation now? It's little wonder. We've had eight years of pure stupi… Continue

Reply to a post saying that any congressional democrat who votes for money for Bush's wars is guilty of war crimes

Better start lining them up now because the majority party in the House, under the relentlessly awful "leadership" of Ms. Nancy, our lady of the perpetual botox injection, the Neocons' dream token democrat, are planning to give these murdering bastards another huge lump of borrowed cash to continue screwing up the Middle East. But it's only $170 billion this time and the brilliant armchair warriors in the pentagon claim that this modest sum will keep things unbearably miserably through 2009. T… Continue

Reply to a post predicting martial law in the US and asking if he's crazy to think so...

You're nuts if you think... As you write: "MSM refuses to go along w/ the sale of or rationale for attack." Now THAT'S crazy. MSM will spend their dying breaths covering for the Bushies because they're so completely craven and co-opted that they're afraid to go against the corporate line even in death. The rest is completely rational, imo, because there's a level of utter madness that's so completely outside the frame of reference of even moderately crazy people that it's literally impossible… Continue

My response to a post extolling libertarianism and Ron Paul's candidacy...

Libertarianism's attractive qualities? I'm not being snide or snarky, but I really can't think of any. I'd be grateful for a quick summary of what you like about (I assume) lower-case "l" libertarianism. Or is it capital "L"?

So you know my biases and preconceptions, I have one overarching objection to the social structure I see as the inevitable result of libertarianism. That would be wholesale devolution of a country with some (albeit few) shared values into…

Warren,
Addendum to my below comment... I just added on my blog post (link below) a reference to Taft-Hartley... So, this type of strike (May 1) IS illegal?! Wow--if you know more (if Taft-Hartley rings a bell), please enlighten me!
*%&_# ... I hope Cheney et al's false flag event isn't at one o' the ports where the May 1 is underway, giving BushCo "national security" reasons not only to call off the event BUT to impose martial law and heightened (if that's even possible) surveillance sooner than we thought......

Warren,
Gosh--you done real good commenting on my Wall about May 1st, unions 'n stuff. Inspired me to write a whole blog post about what U said!
BTW, you're an exquisite plus knowledgeable writer, Warren. And--haha--we must be soulmates in one regard--I tend to write dissertations for email's, myself! Plus I still haven't finished two school homework assignments from 47 and 33 years ago, respectively (and I'm very offended that both teachers--Grade 6 and last term of college--graded my YET-to-be-completed projects with "A's"... one was researching a continent and the other the world, and being thorough takes time!)

Excellent page, Warren...
This is ON in your state (OR), as you may know... Please read my post about the MAY 1st strike!
If you agree (please feel free to comment!), let everyone you know become aware... THIS is our (last?) chance--for impeachment, for ending the occupation of Iraq, AT LEAST for forcing our topics into the presidential campaigns!

Hey, Warren.

Ping, ping! Unfortunately I just started a new job and am running around like a chicken with his head off. I don't have your e-mail address any more because a computer crash removed everything from July onwards. Write me an e-mail and tell me what happened in Portland if you have time.
