I am also mother to a little boy and I want to do my best to preserve whatever I can of what is good and just in the world for him.
Interests

Moosewood Collective Cookbook (I highly recommend), King Arthur (flour) 200th Anniversary cookbook. Unconditional Parenting by Alfie Kohn. Lately- anything at all by Terry Pratchett, especially though his latest Going Postal and the also very very good Thief of Time/ Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Neil Gaimen and Terry Pratchett/ The Beekeeper's Apprentice or On the Segregation of the Queen by Laurie R. Music
Hem, some of The New Pornographers. Billy Holiday. Bollywood music. Mazzy Star, Suzanne Vega, The Pixies, Frank Black and the Catholics, Belle and Sebastian (only sometimes now), Stereolab, Cuban music, and oh so much more.... alright, here's a little more... some Elliot Smith, Pink Martini, Dengue Fever, Whiskeytown, Gillian Welch (and David Rawlings), getting into Wilco, sincerely enjoy some of The Jawhawks, I very much like the Wilco & Billy Bragg collaboration on Woody Guthrie songs called Mermaid Avenue, Nick Drake (lately, Time of No Reply), Bonnie Tyler's song Total Eclipse of the Heart, Imani Coppola, DAVID BOWIE! OH you pretty things...And if you like him in Portuguese, watch The Life Aquatic with Seu Jorge.... Velvet Underground ("Satellite's gone, up to the sky. Things like that drive me out of my mind.") George Gershwin, especially in the summer...and Classic Queen, the tape from 1978. Oh and Herb Alpert and the Tiijuana Brass, Roger Miller, and the one Bonnie Raitt song "Angel from Montgomery" which makes me cry about halfway through everytime. Electric 6 song "Fire in the Disco."

It's easy, you just put your lips together and blow." WAY better chemistry and plot than Casablanca, even though Ingrid Bergman is gorgeous.)

New Idea for Impeach/Anti-War Nationwide Demonstrations- "Die-Ins"

At least I think it could be very effective- here's the idea- you know
those anti-smoking demonstrations where they have, say, 11,000 people
surround a tobacco CEO building and fall down "dead" to demonstrate
how many people die everyday from tobacco related deaths???? Well, I'm
taking that idea and applying it to the number of dead soldiers so far
from each state. The Bush administration is not allowing photos of
body bags shipped from Iraq, we do not see the dead,… Continue

This is totally not related to impeachment- but

Has anyone ever had an allergic reaction to fiddleheads? These delicacies of the springtime in Vermont just gave me hives from head to foot- I'm on day 5 of the reaction, but the steroids are finally helping to relieve the swelling in my fingers, hence, the blogging... WTF? Fiddleheads? I've only ever had this happen with antibiotics before, oh well, at least it's not to chocolate or coffee or chili peppers. Lucky me. I should be glad I'm not starving in China too, as long as I'm counting my ble… Continue

KUCINICH 08' !!!!!

I have never felt this good about a candidate before, EVER. I've never totally agreed with a candidate like this and never trusted one immediately like this- even Al Gore and Howard Dean. I have never wept when listening to a speech- this guy was the youngest mayor of a major city (Cleveland, at age 31) and was voted to City Council at the age of 23- his family was poor, he knows what that can be like- they had to live in a car at one point for Godssake. Check out his blog on myspace and send it… Continue

"George Tushy"

My friend's son Aidan wanted me to share what he calls the president- he's the cute kid sticking out his tongue as a founding father in the rally picks.

and good news, my father does not have cancer of any kind.

Chemical Found in Rocket Fuel in Nation's Water Supply- Watch The Video

http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=3094072&page=1

Check out this link to ABC News video about the hearings Congress is having about: ok, this is probably some form of plagarism but here's the article that goes with the video- if you know any mothers, this is good reason to install a water filtration system- no joke- and we can thank our defense dept. for possible brain development problems in our children!

"A study from the Centers for Disease Control last year tested a…

Hi Bridget! I think Kucinich's chances are getting better by the day - as more people hear him he gains support.

And yes, I love David Bpowie :)

No, that's him. I've been tempted to send that picture to all the people who I've been debating w/ about what a terrible president he is. Some people are insisting he's a good president but have no facts to support that sentiment. I really went off on 'em.

I gotta agree with you on Kucinich. He's what the progressive pundits are referring to as a "Truth Speaker" (is that anything like a Horse Whisperer?). Hillary would be an effing disaster, in my opinion. (and I think they use "Hillary" to differentiate her from the other slightly more famous Clinton, both for her own identity's sake and for clarity. Or something.) She is ever-so-slightly watered down Republican. She has a few progressive ideas, but caves in far too easily to the Republicans, presumably to reach "middle ground". What bullshit. Do any Republicans try to reach middle ground? Do they try to be bi-partisan? No. And any Dem who "goes along to get along" isn't worthy of the Party. Obama has begun to sound like an oily politician and less and less like the honest straight-talking leader that people were so impressed with a year ago. (Lynn Samuels calls him "Robot Obama" :o) The only other candidate I would consider is Mike Gravel; anothe honest straight-from-the-hip guy. Unfortunately, the so-called Liberal Media has already marginalized him as comedy releif, just as they are on the verge of marginalizing Dennis Kucinich. But for a lot of progressives, it seems to be Kucinich or nobody.
After the last House vote when the Dems handed Bush everything he wanted in regards to Iraq, I have little or no use for the slick, safe politicians that the Democrats seem to be fielding. I bailed out of the Democratic party, as I have no desire to be a part of a party of such cowards and lack of conviction.

...but still vote for Kucinich!

Kucinich gets my vote because I know he is speaking from his heart- I also feel he has more guts and courage to take action with his impeach bill than either Hillary or Obama. Edwards seems like a nice guy but just doesn't have the courage and fire that I need to be truly inspired. Frankly, I'm surprising myself with my choice of an older, white male for president over a woman or the younger and flashier Obama and Edwards.... I had originally been leaning towards Clinton ( and why does everyone call her "Hillary" but rarely refers to the others as "John" or "Baraka" or "Dennis")? but after watching Kucinich's speeches there is no way I can not vote for him- I also love that he is not accepting corporate sponsorships- his one million $50 contribution may seems crazy but it make me like him even more, that he is doing it his way so he can continue to speak from his heart and not be pressured or coerced by MONEY MONEY MONEY like all the damn politicians out there. My boyfriend is not even considering Kucinich because he doesn't think that he has a chance in hell- which is where we differ- because I vote for the person I agree with the most and think it's ridiculous to go against that to vote for a more popular candidate- that said, I did not vote for Nader because I truly preferred Gore- I got to see him when he came to Vermont on his campaign- he's a good guy.

Kucinich, yes, there is hope. Strong convictions, strong man. Hoping the voting public can put up with this ridiculously long campaign...
