Thanks for reading my blog post about Kucinich's resolution of 35 counts for impeaching Bush and for leaving your comment about the shocking void of media coverage. You're ahead of me by having watched Dennnis on C-Span Mon. night! I wasn't aware of his move (a "Question of Privelege") until checking my email Tue. AM. I'm actually unaware of what's happening on TV--I don't watch news on CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, CNN, PBS (except for Moyers & Brancaccio), and I've reduced my DISH subscription such that I no longer have MSNBC to tune into Olbermann ('tho I see that he had Constitutional law expert Jonathan Turley on)... I only watch FreeSpeechTV (my reason for having DISH satellite) and LINK--especially Amy Goodman's Democracy Now... I was disappointed that neither DN! nor GritTV (Laura Flanders) nor The Daily Show (Jon Stewart) had clips of or discussions about Dennis' resolution yesterday, and I didn't make time to listen to C-Span or even NPR (radio)... I'm only getting my info on the subject from online (currently on dial-up... yuck) and am curious as to what IS happening in the broader television domain. Like you, I was shocked yesterday to find next to nothing on mainstream news websites, but realized that this was another wake-up-to-reality moment re corporate complicity, yet really expected that they would be forced to cover the story TODAY... and find that still they are not!!! Barely a mention in the politics section (CNN, Washington Post) of these news websites (whilst some independent blogs are ablaze)--wow, it really is a black-out.
Anyway, the rule is that Pelosi has to announce if this qualifies as a Resolution of Privelege--probably she has, and I just don't know. Generally an impeachment issue *would* be, as it was when Dennis did this last Nov. re his Cheney bill. If Pelosi allows the House to vote, they have to do so within two days--guess they'll either kill it (table) or send it to the Judiciary in hopes that it will die there, but not debate it unless WE produce a loud enough outcry! http://kucinich.us is trying to keep up w. news reports and the current status of the resolution... I've registered a "Google Alert" for any online info and am going now to read a few webpages about the current status (Hoyer says it's not worthy of a debate; Hoyer, Kucinich and Repubs all recommend sending it to the Judiciary--guess I'm confused in fearing that it could be dismissed even MORE by voting it down w. no referral to Committee). So our work is with Conyers and Wexler (thank goodness he finally publically supports Kucinich, 'tho he says there's not enough support in the Judiciary and is counting on McClellan's testimony June 20 to change that).

(part 1 of 10) Each one is 9 or 10 minutes long so it takes a while to watch the whole thing, but it is well worth the time spent! It's heavy duty, best to watch when well composed and not apt to be interrupted! There is also a home movie shot that SHOWS one of the other gunmen running away....
ONE of! Also, when you are watching those over at youtube, there will be one that comes up on what happened to JFK jr. I highly recomend seeing that one also. EVERYTHING then becomes so "clear", and you KNOW then, if there was any doubt, that the large amount of information over at hermes press is quite credible and accurate, no "sensationalist" or "conspiracy fantasma" to it! Tell 'Em to Fight: Answering your House Rep's Objections to Impeaching Cheney
1 - H. Res. 333, Kucinich's bill to impeach Cheney, is weak.
Why? There's SCADS of documentation of the deceit to get us into war and because of that deceit 3700 Americans are dead and the US is MORE of a major terrorist target than ever because of all the hate/fear caused by the Iraq occupation. So the first two parts of Kucinich's bill are impeccably defendable. SO, Rep. X, why not sign it, whip it, AND write another bill you consider stronger? Then whip THAT too? Isn't the Constitution that important? Aren't the freedoms of American citizens that important?
2 - Impeachment won't get through the Senate.
Once the House gives the investigations the gravity and weight of an impeachment (rather than these flaccid investigations where subpoenas aren't even respected) the mainstream media will have to more fully cover the CheneyBushCo criminal acts, resulting in greater constituent pressure even in Republican districts to pressure their Reps to get some integrity back in government, even if it means abandoning the President. So the whole tide could be turned by the media coverage, and We The People, if they give it a chance.
3 - We don't have enough Republicans on board to pass impeachment in the Senate.
S o tell your Rep. to do what would make Republican cooperation more likely - impeach! - to get the media coverage!
4 - The Democrats will be seen as partisan if they push impeachment.
THE DEMS HAVE GOT TO FIGHT THE FAULTY Republican FRAMES. They have to say something like:
"We know some will call us partisan but this is about right and wrong and protecting the constitution. We can't play politics as usual any more!"
(Why not one Democrat has said this is beyond me. It's like, no Dems have fought the Republican frame that Dems are "soft on terror" with the TRUTH that Bush's policies have made the US a much more likely target for hate and attack. Whuh? Hello?)
5 - Getting Democrats elected, both in the White House and in Congress, is more important than impeachment.
Maybe Nadler. Pelosi, and other so-called progressive Reps have to both walk and chew gum at this time in history! Maybe they have to both impeach and try to get Dems elected. MAYBE they have to FIGHT. We are certainly asking our troops to fight. Countless activists are essentially taking on unpaid full-time jobs to fight this current in history. It's time for YOU, Rep. X, to step up and fight!
And I think Dems are WAY underestimating the amount of support they'd get from Dem and Repub citizens if they stood up and said:
"Impeachment is NOT partisan no matter WHO says so; it's about right and wrong. If we are taking a political risk here, we don't care. We're protecting you and our Constitution no matter what!")
Remember, 54% of all citizens polled think Cheney should be impeached; as do 76% of Democrats. (see http://www.americanresearchgroup.com/ )
And what if Dems DON'T get into the White House? That's a gamble I don't want my Rep to take. If Bush suspends the elections under the guise of Martial Law- which he can under this presidential directive, http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070509-12.html- (and see this Marjorie Cohen article too, http://www.afterdowningstreet.org/?q=node/23128/print),
then the whole country and all citizens' rights are TOAST FOREVER.
6 - Impeachment is a distraction from getting our progressive legislation through (minimum wage, health care, etc.).
I think you tell your Rep. he/she has to do it ALL. Cosign H. Res. 333. Write another impeachment bill too if he/she wants. Whip them both, hard. How are you going to get meaningful progressive legislation through if Cheney/Bush/Gonzales block the bills, use signing statements to ignore bills, and ignore supoenas, ignore the rule of law, and ignore the will of the American people (to get out of Iraq etc)?
Right now, every citizen right and liberty is GONE, Mr. or Ms. Rep. See the recent Presidential Executive Orders, http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/07/20070717-3.html and http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2007/05/20070509-12.html . At any time ANY of us can be deemed a "threat to the stabilization of Iraq", or an "enemy combatant", and spied on, kidnapped, imprisoned, our possessions impounded, tortured, and killed without due process or legal resource. ISN'T THAT WORTH THE FIGHT OF YOUR LIFE?
It's TIME to fight. Look beyond today to history. This is the Constitution we're talking about, and FREEDOM - sorry but there it is. It's time for the "progressive Dems" in Congress to FIGHT THE REPUBLICAN FRAMES.
WE NEED TO TELL THEM TO FIGHT FOR US. Fight the Republican frames, CHANGE the public dialogue, FIGHT for our freedom and the integrity of the Constitution! If that entails a political risk so be it. I don't really think it will.
If the Representatives don't want to do their jobs, then anything goes. We can call them out, publically. Tell them to STEP UP OR STEP DOWN and let those who are willing protect the Constitution and the American people.
